Day 121/365: Brody my Jack Russell, the Official Tester of Tough Squeaky Dog Toys

April 6, 2011 by info@3QuartersToday.com

I have found the MOST indestructible squeaky dog toys on the market! Seriously, chew toys your dog won't destroy. My Jack Russel is a pro at tearing toys to pieces and I have found the BEST squeaky dog toys for aggressive chewers.Toughest Toys – Squeaky Dog Toys for Aggressive Chewers

Many of you have followed my quest to find the indestructible dog toy. Specifically, a squeaky toy, my Jack Russell loves squeaky toys. So far only the toys that have past the survivability test has been his Nylabone Dura Chew and his Busy Buddy.

My postings on this adventure attracted the attention of the Kyjen Company who makes unique and innovative dog products.

They sent graciously Brody a box of challenging and definitely unique squeaky toys and I’m going to do them justice during my by documenting Brody’s experience.

The day the box arrived Brody just knew it was for him.

Seriously, it was almost like ESP and he could sense all the fun inside. I let Brody pick out of the box and the first one he picked was the Hard Boiled Softies. It honks rather than squeaks and this was different. It is a plush covering with a hard rubber “yolk” inside.

It’s a bee! It’s different!

He pushed and honked it and eventually the antennae and the wings came off. Then he went to work on the bottom part of the plush bee because he couldn’t get at the noisemaker.

After a few hours, the egg came loose from its fabric. I was very impressed with the thick rubber construction. Since it was a very large size it was more difficult to puncture.

Got it loose!

After the egg was out of the “shell” Brody played and bounced it around all night.

What? All night, a toy actually lasted all night? This is a first!

The squeaker stayed in the egg even. It wasn’t until the next day the squeaker became dislodged and disappeared inside the dog toy cavity. I fully expected it then to be chewed into many pieces. Nope.

A week later I’m using the egg as a treat toy. I break up his dog bones into three pieces and put them inside. It’s a perfect size the egg is large enough in diameter to encourage some serious chewing and tossing to get them out.

This next phase of toy play will last him hours if I keep the treat pieces large enough.

I have put the egg back in it’s shell a few times, but it’s chewed up enough where it doesn’t stay. But I’m impressed.

As you can see from the video Brody really loves his toys, small toys are a challenge to play interactively with him as he plays keep away. Next review is a toy that is the perfect size in my opinion, maybe if they merged the two together?

Thank You Kyjen!

In my years of buying and testing dog toys, I’ve learned that the Petsafe dog toys are really TOUGH dog chew toys and the BEST on the market.

Here are my favorite dog toys that meet the tough, and fit into the truly indestructible category. PetSafe makes super quality dog toys and the Busy Buddy was Brody’s first toy, my request, or wish, they make a tough durable squeaker came true and the Booya is what every dog toy should be like in the future.

If you’re looking for GUARANTEED indestructible dog toys these are your best bet, but you may have a dog that is a super aggressive chewer and these still won’t last. One tip is to get one size larger than recommended.

Day 120/365: Marshmallow Peeps for Easter

April 5, 2011 by info@3QuartersToday.com

You know it’s getting close to Easter when the Marshmallows Peep show up on the store shelves. I always get excited about the anticipation of Easter Peeps.

Day 120: Easter Peeps
Marshmallow Goodness in all colors

Marshmallow Peeps are soft, colorful, sugary, and fun!!

This iconic treat of pure sugar has a cult following and there are many ways to use them other than just for getting a sugar high. They now come in all sorts of colors, aside from the original yellow, although I’m a purist.

There is a whole website dedicated to Peep Recipes, Peep Crafts, and multiple contests including one from the Washington Post called the “Peep Show” I won’t even go-to the subject that comes to mind.

Heck, there is even the official PEEPS Facebook page, well of course, why not?

Day 94/365: Burpee Seeds, Think Spring!

March 9, 2011 by info@3QuartersToday.com

Day 94: Time To Think About the Garden
Day 94: Time To Think About the Garden

Somewhere spring is on it’s way, or at least I’d like to think so. This Burpee Seed display at the grocery store reminded me that yes, warm weather will be coming eventually. But until then I hear the rumor of 8-10 inches of snow. I refuse to think that. Nope, it’s March, I don’t care if I live in Nebraska the seed packets going in the shopping cart.

Anyone notice the sign is for vegetable seeds and what is showing is flowers? Cucumbers were on the rows below….

Photoshop CS2 Notes: Florescent lighting in the back of a grocery store throws off my FinePix S1500 camera and gives a yellow hue. The flash was too glaring.  Someday I will remember to adjust the white balance, but until then I added my standard action layers and adjusted the decreased the yellow in all ranges, brought up the contrast, and use used the desaturation sponge tool to whiten the upper left portion of the sign.

Day 89/365: Coop de Ville, a Shopping Paradise

March 4, 2011 by info@3QuartersToday.com

For the next two days I’m going to break out of the typical 365 Project rules. I took so many neat pictures during my shopping trip at Coop de Ville and  Feathers that I’m going to expand a little and break out of the one photo limit. Won’t do this often, but hopefully you’ll forgive me this time.

Welcome to Feathers

Coop de Ville & Feathers are two dynamite retail stores. They have everything a chick needs for her home, her garden, her gift giving needs and herself.

Feathers Gift Shop- Louisville, NE

Unique way of displaying jewelry and scarves.

Photoshop notes: the lighting was perfect in the store, nice big windows so the only adjustment I did was add an artistic plastic wrap effect.

Don't forget to look UP!!

Why does an old refrigerator door look perfect on this wall and not mine? I just couldn’t pull off the forks and knives either.

You look Maaaarvelous My Dear

Around every corner is a new visual vision for the eyes, something unexpected, whimsical, and things that are normally out of place, look like they belong. Don’t know her name, but she looks Maarvelous!

Paperdoll Wall

Across from the lady in the bathtub is this wall, yes decoupaged with paperdolls and whimsical funny sayings. “Being in therapy is great, I spend an hour talking about myself. It’s kinda being a guy on a date.  Caroline Shea” or “It’s the good girls who keep diaries, bad girls don’t have the time- Takiah Bankhead” Note the whimsical light at the top and the old hair dryer? There is so much to see in each room, around every corner that it’s easy to miss things.

Don’t worry, I’ll revisit the stores, there will be random posts throughout the year, but if you would like to get a regular does of whimsy visit the Coop de Ville & Feathers  Facebook page. Both stores are located in Louisville Nebraska, just 30 minutes from Lincoln or Omaha. If you visit, reserve and afternoon.
