So who am I, and why should you care about my blogging world?
Why 3 Quarters Today?
I get very passionate about things in life, my husband once said, “Boy, stick a quarter in you and wind you up!”.
My response, “Yup, and you can only take 3 quarters of me in a day.”
If you’re interested in more about how the 3 Quarters theory applies to my life you can read it in more detail, it’s a lot longer than one sentence. So hence I started blogging my life to record and curate my passions in one location.
I’m passionate about many things but I’d have to start with the internet. That’s one of my “Quarters”. My journey online started in 1991, when there was very little to see. How many remember CompuServe? I was on there.
My home is smack dab in the middle of the country. If you guessed Nebraska you would be right. But have a worldwide view of life.
Connecticut is my home state where I grew up and went to high school, I then took the leap and moved 1500 miles at age 17 to Oklahoma for college, then upon graduation moved north because I just couldn’t take two weeks of 100F summer weather.
Oklahoma State University did provide me with a Bachelors’s Degree in Animal Science/Business and that has served me well and for twenty years I was involved in some way in the pet or animal health industry.
My many career and jobs included working at a veterinary teaching hospital (Okla State), veterinary clinic, nutritional research laboratory, pharmaceutical company, pet store (Fish Bowl), farmers co-op (Farmland), pet food manufacturer (Oxbow Animal Health), swine equipment distributor, and a pet product distributor.
Whew! So I love all things pets, including the people that go with them. I even have a Boxer dog gift shop.
My travels have taken me to just about every state in America and I’ve been fortunate to visit England, France, Germany, the Czech Republic, and Canada. I love to travel, I love the beach!
I am a social media junkie. My cyber life is on Facebook and I got think I got a Facebook account in 2006 shortly after the expansion from the college audience.
My son added me so I had a friend, wasn’t he nice. The decision to start blogging my life started when I started blogging with Pet & Kennel Distributors in 2010.
Besides being able to be on the computer 24/7 what else do I like. Photography and food. They do go hand in hand, although some think a strange combination.
But if you become a reader of this piece of internet real estate you will soon understand why.
I have three kids, who are United States Marines, one about to become a Marine, and a daughter who is now married with three kids, including twins.
I am passionate about music, specifically the piano. I play piano for church for Wednesday Lenten and Advent services. In 2020 I also added an 8:00 am service during our social distancing church service.
Enjoy my ramblings on my blogging world. I hope you find something you like, if you do leave a comment. If you have a blog you think I might like on the above topics, leave that too.
Have a great and blessed day!

Great blog! You have an eclectic background and it seems like you have fun with everything you do. Keep us posted if you decide to do agility with Brody. I don’t believe in the old dog new tricks thing. Give it a shot. I’ve been meaning to try it with my dog for some time now, too.

Thanks for the encouragement. I’ve starting working with him on “focus, focus, focus,…ok, GO” Need to bring some treats out on the trail and have in my pocket. I love NYC, to visit that is, don’t think I could live in the east coast again. I like reading about it though, so much character.

Thank you for reading and liking my Blog! Do I know you? lol JK….. I have a WWII project I am working on. My father is from originally” Nebraska”, so that is where the story starts… I was just writing about it and his time in WWII….. My grandfather served in WWI…. so I am very patriotic and very supportive of our militarily. Please thank both of your son’s for their service…..then I saw that you are from NE. I am saving my money to get back to my roots in Nebraska! My great grand parents homesteaded in Cozad in the late 1800’s.My best friends are dogs. I use to rehabilitate abused dogs. I had a couple of Jack Russell’s. (Yes agility would be a good thing for a Jack). I have trained and worked therapy dogs for 9 years.
For some reason The Divine is trying to get a message to us, to bring us together for some reason…… There are too many coincidences and I believe in signs…..When I read your ABOUT I felt like I knew you…. lol
Thanks again! And God Bless you and your family!

Oh and the other thing was the reference to Quarters….. My father was in the 110th 33th QUARTERmaster. Weird when that happens

Hi. My interest in Internet and social media is similar to yours — only it’s happening like 15 years later, and I am trying to navigate it from a writer’s (and mother’s) perspective, without drowning! Your project here sounds so fun and inspiring. Best of luck, and I hope to stop back again soon! -Kate

You got some great pictures and were there during some amazing sunsets. I also love the “big sky” of the midwest. Reminds me of the ocean sometimes.

So, I think your blog taught me that I’ve been using the wrong acronym for “straight out of the camera” pics. For my 365 project this year I touted to post “SOTC” photos, but, I guess it’s “SOOC?” hehe for sure, i’m learning about photography, acronyms and all! And, I love your photoshop fridays. It’s hard having a SOOC project because it’s always so tempting to post-process and make the pics pop more. Hmmm…maybe I can sneak in a weekly post-process day. If I include the before and after that probably won’t be cheating. You got me thinking! Thanks for stopping by and following my blog! 🙂
ndjmom says
My blog has been a work in progress, and I’ve learned new things as I’ve gone along. I think either acronym is correct. I have swung both ways in improving my SOOC shots and learning more on the post production side. I love when I input a photo into Photoshop and the histogram is dead center even. Means I did something right on the exposure. But I’m continually learning. Thanks for visiting and looking forward to seeing more of your work.

Thanks for checking out my blog. I am not a good photographer at all so it’s awesome to see other’s who can take such beautiful pictures like yours. I live in Nebraska as well – where are you???
ndjmom says
I’m glad you like my photography, I’m an amateur at best, but I’m learned a lot from various bloggers, through friends and just experimenting. I’m in Elmwood, halfway between Omaha and Lincoln. Click on Elmwood or Murdock on my tags and you can learn all about our little village. How did you find your way to Nebraska from New York? Was that NYC, or upstate. I’m from Connecticut myself.

You sound like something of a kindred spirit: family, photography, animals, writing, and music sum up most of my days. The photo from Arles is beautiful — stayed near there back in 2003 and loved the area. Thanks for visiting my blog!
ndjmom says
I wish I could spend all my days doing all of the above, but I have to work, at least it’s at a photography lab, so I’m surrounded by photography all day. I would go back to Arles in a heartbeat!

Thanks for visiting my blog and liking the Parris Island, SC where we make Marines post. I just started my blog and have a lot to learn! And greatly appreciate the like. I loved strolling around your blog. Congratulations and God Speed to your sons in the Marines. My dad is a retired Marine, serving in WWII, Korea, and Vietnam and I’ve worked for the Navy for 32 years and my daughter for 6 years. By the way — I remember Compuserve and even my old number ID! Love your work — thanks for sharing.

Thanks for the comment. Your family has quite the military history. I just wish my Dad were still alive to enjoy his grandsons in the Marines. They would enjoy talking to each other. He didn’t talk much about his service and the war.

Do you know of a site on the internet called Anysoldier.com? It’s a very interesting site. Also, check out Sugar Bush Squirrel, she is amazing, a very patriotic squirrel. I send 5 picture postcard size cards made from photos I have taken, with a short story or jokes on the back to each poly trauma veteran’s hospitals as well as 1 rehab hospital every week, equals 5 hospitals. I send physical cards rather that internet cards so the veteran will have something to hold. I am an RN and cared for people in their homes. When the husband of one of my patients went to a convalescent hospital I sent him cards every week. His daughter said that when he no longer remembered me he looked through his stack of cards every day, looking at the pictures. Even if someone can no longer read they can see a picture. I owe more than I can ever repay to our service members. I can no longer be a nurse but I still have my pictures. Squirrleytemple
info@3QuartersToday.com says
I have never heard of them, I will have to check them out. I have several patriotic photos I can make into cards. I’m terrible about getting things in the mail, but if I have everything set aside and prepped ahead of time then I’m pretty good. Thanks for the heads up.

I need to gett to New England during the fall. did Vermont in the winter last year. I have so many photos I haven’t had time to post or write about most of them. I need to do a better job.

Glad to know that I’m not the only one who has been online for a bit. Remember the days before WordPress, before MySpace, there were sites to create your own blogging space (though it wasn’t called that at the time.) I think that was in the late 90s? Anyway, that’s when I started tinkering with html. I’ve also been keeping a paper diary/journal for twenty years now.
info@3QuartersToday.com says
Compuserve is where I got my start in the early 90’s, I remember reading a book waiting for dial-up modems to load a page.

I am working on developing my own blog, While doing so my two yorkie poo puppies (they will be 1yr this month) are chewing up every toy I get them, no matter how “indestructible” they might be. That is how I stumbled upon your blog post… I have already ordered 2 petsafe products and am hoping for success! Aside from that I started looking at other parts of your blog and found we have a few things in common! I too grew up in CT and now live in the Midwest (Iowa) to be specific. I am a HUGE supporter of the military, as I am an Army Veteran myself. I work as a nurse in the VA system, so I am always surrounded by, and advocating for my fellow veterans. I felt compelled to leave a message as we do share several commonalities. Thanks for the info that I found and if you are still an active blogger, I would love to pick your brain sometime on getting started on it myself!
Sincerely,
Amanda B.
