Woman with Gun---Robbers Run

14 Aug

Reblogged from :

What better way to start this sunny Sunday than to feature an empowered female protecting her store, her employees and her customers through the clear expression of her Second Amendment constitutional rights.

Watch the rats run when this grandmother whips out her gun.  The jam up at the exit looks like a 1920s silent film comedy spoof.

These oh so macho men thought they had an easy target until out of nowhere they received a couple of blasts of retribution.

I could not help but post this. Normally my blog stays out of politics and anything controversial. But, this is great and if more criminals thought more store owners could protect their property there may be less crime. By the way, I love reading this blog, she makes so much sense and articulates ideas in a way I wish I could.

This grandmother rocks. My dad was in a store robbery–his dog broke it up, with no guns involved, just mace–but after that, he bought a gun. It is just too scary otherwise.

I have been thinking a long time about whether or not to reply to this post as my point of view lies more on the gun control side. One of the things I love about this blog is that it educates me about points of view and ways of living that are different from my own and I like that. So in that spirit I offer these comments.

The issue of gun control has been in the news a lot lately because of a number of tragic incidents, with strident rhetoric on both sides. I think what often gets lost in this back and forth shuffle is that few of us with a more pro gun control point of view want to to eliminate the second amendment. What we do want are laws and law enforcement that prevents most people from legally obtaining weaponry, semi-automatic weapons especially, for which there is no purpose that we can perceive other than mayhem. We also want laws that help to keep guns out of the hands of people with criminal records and mental problems for example.

I have read a decent number of statistics on gun ownership. They favor the idea that gun possession and use in the type of situations this video presents do in fact have a dampening effect on this type of crime. They also seem to indicate that guns in the home increases the rate of death by gunfire by a factor of more than 2. Its a small number without a gun in the home, so doubling it does not represent a huge increase relative to population, but it is a doubling none the less. So there are definite pros and cons relative even to hand gun ownership. This article in the New York Times does a good job of discussing the nuances and ambiguities:

What I perceive from those I know who support the right to bear arms, is a fear that any limitation on gun rights is a step down the slippery slope that undermines the second amendment. This is, to my mind, overblown, and is part of what prevents a more rational discourse on the subject. I think we need better gun control laws and I think some types of weapon need to be outlawed altogether. More than currently are. I don’t believe the second amendment needs to be repealed.

I hope I have added something to the conversation.

Thank you for your well thought out and respectful reply. It makes me feel what I posted has made something think and examine their own position.

I myself don’t like holding a gun, much less firing one. They physically scare me. However, my husband is a hunter and we have several in the house. I live in a part of the country where hunting is common, and gun safety is paramount.

If gun ownership was banned criminals would still have guns. What I found so ironic in this video is the gun owner protecting her property was an old lady, a grandmotherly type. Who obviously was comfortable using and managing a weapon.

Like a car there should be a license for buying a guy, gun education classes (privately held) and obviously full background checks.

Thanks for the link, it adds again another inconclusive discussion on whether gun bans really work. Grandma here proves what a gun used correctly can do.

Thank you again for your comments and I hope to see you here again.
